Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation presented the research findings on the Global Power City Index (GPCI) at a special seminar sponsored by Gyeonggi Research Institute, a leading think tank creating urban policies for Gyeonggi State, a broader region of Seoul at Korea. Director Hiroo Ichikawa and Senior Researcher Takayuki Kubo were invited to offer presentations and a discussion session with the researchers at Gyeonggi Research Institute followed.

Following the opening remarks form Prof. Jwa, Prof. Ichikawa presented the research summary and findings on GPCI-2009 as a keynote speech. City of Seoul was featured comparing to other Asian major cities such as Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Shanghai, who are all aiming to be the global hub. Among these cities, Seoul ranks 12th in the comprehensive ranking showing its strength in Research and Development ranked as 4th place. Further analysis was provided comparing more detail indicators between Seoul and Tokyo and the strength and potentials of Seoul was discussed. More specific items on the discussion will be developed and shown in the GPCI-2010 research.
